Nicole Dorrington

Nicole is a registered psychologist and has been practising in the field of child and adolescent psychology since 2008. She has vast experience in supporting children and adolescents with a range of complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. Nicole has a special interest and skill set for early childhood intervention. Supporting children aged 2-14 years with emotional regulation and executive functioning, childhood anxiety, acute stress disorders, adjustments to life/family changes, attachment difficulties, and childhood trauma. She has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, disability services and child and youth mental health service. For the past 8 years Nicole has worked for Evolve Therapeutic Services, Child and Youth Mental Health Service, specialising in providing mental health intervention to children and young people who live in out-of-home care with childhood trauma and complex mental health difficulties.

Nicole works from both a child and family centred approach, providing support for parents as well. Following 12 years of working in multidisciplinary teams, she adopts a holistic approach to mental health intervention and enjoys collaborating with other professionals to achieve optimal care for her clients. Nicole is a warm and friendly practitioner, striving to make the therapeutic space welcoming and playful.

Special interests: Childhood trauma, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, stress, sleep issues, challenging behaviour, family discord, parental separation, parenting skills, a range of assessments including psychosocial, developmental, cognitive and behavioural.

Treatments: Trauma informed practice, circle of security, family therapy, play therapy, dyadic developmental psychotherapy, emotional regulation and distress tolerance, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, positive behaviour support.

Nicole is an Australian Psychology Board approved supervisor. Member of Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPi). Circle of Security Facilitator. Certified Institute of Applied Behavioural Analysis, Triple P Facilitator. Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Children and Adolescents.

Qualifications

BBehavSc(Psych), BBehavSc(HonsPsych). AAPi member.

Fortnightly Wednesdays 8:00am – 12:30pm

Fridays 8:00am – 2:00pm
